Vaitheeswaran Koil is a temple town in Tamil Nadu, near Sirkazhi in Mayiladuthurai district, that is famous both for its Shiva temple and as a centre of Nadi palm leaf astrology. Many Nadi reading families have offices in the town, and people travel from across India and abroad for readings.

The temple

The Vaitheeswaran temple is dedicated to Shiva as Vaidyanathan, “the Lord of healing,” and is also one of the Navagraha temples associated with Mars (Angaraka) (Wikipedia). Many visitors combine a darshan with a Nadi reading. The two are separate: the temple doesn’t run the Nadi offices.

Getting there

The town is in the Cauvery delta region of Tamil Nadu. The nearest larger towns are Sirkazhi and Mayiladuthurai; Chennai and Tiruchirappalli are the usual airports, followed by road or rail. Check current routes before you travel.
